Tracking Your Conversions in Google Adwords

Your business is growing and you can see that your visitors are signing up for your newsletter or buying your product. Your visitors are also filling up your forms. This is what you call conversions.

When you launch your Google Adwords campaign, you know that what you’re aiming for is to increase your website conversions. But before you look at the increase in your sales or your email newsletter list, you first have to track those website conversions. And here’s why.

You need to know which conversion is coming from which Google Adwords campaign. In this way, you will know which campaign you’d like to focus on, or in other words, which campaign is profitable by giving you these conversions. In the same way, you also would like to know which campaign you’d rather end because it is not converting well.

So how do you track conversions? You can easily do it in your Google Adwords account and then embedding a code into your website and here’s how:

    • First, you have to log into your Google Adwords account.
    • Then choose the campaign you’d like to monitor for conversion.
    • Then click “Reporting” and choose “Conversions.” When you have selected the “+ New Conversion” tab, you will see that you can choose an action name. This can be something like “newsletter signup” and select the purpose. If you’re not using a secure certificate, you security level for the page will be http.
    • Then enter revenue for the conversion. According to Google Adwords, you have to inform your visitors that you are tracking conversions.
    • Next is to copy and paste the code that you have produced into the website. If you’re trying to track conversion on a newsletter signup, then you can embed the code in the page where the user gets to confirm his or her email address.

After embedding the code, you can then monitor your conversions by viewing your keywords. Then sort the keywords according to clicks and see how many conversions it has generated. If a certain keyword does not convert well, you’d better remove them from your list and focus on better performing keywords.
